Vivian, the founder of Viv's in-Houz spa, poses with a portable massage table in Nairobi to depict a mobile spa

Hallo there! I am Vivian (Viv); the founder of Viv’s in-Houz Spa, and this is my story.

The conception

My journey into mobile spa services started when the spa I worked at abruptly closed in 2019. Just about that time, my colleague Ann Kamau introduced me to LYNK; an online platform that used to put skilled workers from the informal economy in touch with individuals or businesses in Nairobi.

I joined LYNK as a mobile waxing and massage therapist and obtained a portable massage bed on “loan” from them. My sister (Victoria Nyaga) and I raised Ksh 40K to obtain other necessary materials including a portable wax heater, UV machine, essential oils, e.t.c

To grow further into my career, I established Viv’s in-Houz spa.

I continued working with LYNK for a while as my sister (AKA my tech & visionary partner) and I worked on the framework of Viv’s in-Houz spa and then intermittently until 2020 when its operations ceased.

The mission

Wellness and self-care treatments are an integral part of our well-being and balance in life. Nonetheless, with the busy schedules, family commitments and the annoyance of traffic in Nairobi, one of the things taken off our agenda is time for ourselves.

I grew up in a village and a culture where a woman’s well-being was and still is in the last place. It is, however, a no-brainer and known that a happy woman makes a happy home or work space’ and ‘you are most productive when relaxed.

As such, your well-being as a woman is pivotal to the happiness and success of those around you and yourself. My mission is to make wellness and self-care services more accessible and convenient by delivering affordable services to the client’s home, hotel ensuite, or office.

I have diplomas in beauty therapy and business management from Vera beauty college and Kenya institute of management, respectively.

Before starting as a freelance, I had worked for the Kenya defence health clubs (2014-2016) and Afrodise beauty salon (2017).

Having been my mother’s primary carer (she succumbed to cancer in June 2020), I am always grateful to attend to other battling moms & ladies.

Also, those that are abled-differently for whom the only option is to have wellness treatments & grooming done in their homes.

Soothing away their fatigue with a relaxing massage, having them smile & walking with them on their journey has really brought out my purpose.

The team

I am very good at waxing, massage, and threading and clients know me to be highly punctual, hygienic, personable, and communicative. For Viv’s in-Houz spa to provide the services that I can not offer e.g. prenatal massage, manicure, and pedicure, I partner with other competent professionals.

These “partnerships” give me a chance to let my fellow youth shine and grow by taking advantage of the platform that my sister and I have created.

We reach most of Nairobi county and extend to selected neighborhoods like Ruaka, Ngong, Ongata Rongai, Mlolongo, Rongai, Kiambu, Juja, Syokimau, Kitengela, Athi-river, and Ruiru.

While our focus is on ladies, we also offer selected services to their spouses/boyfriends/fathers (all services except waxing & body scrub), the corporate (only chair massage), parents, and children.
